Tomato Pappu

Tomato dal is a dazzling dal recipe and a basic and beginners favorite in Indian cooking. This dish is a main course dish served with rice, chapattis for a hearty and satisfying meal. Dal is the yellow lentil which have been stripped of their outer hulls and split.
Dal is a dish that is regularly eaten with rice and vegetables in Southern India, and either with rice and roti throughout Northern India. Dal is a ready source of proteins for a balanced diet. Tomato Pappu

Ingredients
- 3/4 Cup Turdal
- 1 Onion (Finely cut)
- 2 Tomatoes
- 1 Small ball of Tamarind
- 3/4 tsp Chilli Powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Salt (not heaped)
- 1/4 tsp Mustard
- 1/4 tsp Jeera
- 1/4 tsp Channa Dal
- 1/4 tsp Urad Dal
- 3 Pieces Garlic (For Tempering)
- Few Curry Leaves
Instructions

Boil the dal in cooker with Tamarind, Turmeric powder and salt added.

Then in a pan, add Mustard, Jeera, Channa dal and Urad Dal.

Once they splutter add curry leaves and finely cut Onion.

Once the Onions turn brown, add Garlic first and then Tomato and let it cook for some time.

Grind the dal in the cooker with a ladle (pappy guthi) and then add it to the pan and cook it for some time.

The dish is now ready and can be eaten with roti or rice.
