Tomato Pulav

Tasty rice for your leisurely sundays especially for the vegetarians, you can make vegetable kurma with this and you have a balanced diet cum tasty dishes for your special sunday. Try it your children will thank you for it. If there is a non-vegetarian too then make chicken fry for them. It only takes one and half hour to make all this.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice (basmati)
  • 4 Tomato medium sized
  • 1 Onion big
  • 2 tsp Ginger garlic Paste
  • 2 cups Coconut milk
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 3/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Chili Powder
  • 2tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Ghee optional

Instructions

  1. Wash the rice and soak in water for 30 minutes. Cut the onion and tomatoes into small pieces. 

  2. Take fresh coconut pieces and grind them in the mixer and make coconut milk from it. ( the paste should be very smooth, pour water and sieve with a filter and squeeze out the coconut milk from the left over pulp).

  3. Take a cooker add oil and ghee and add 2 cloves and 3 cinnamon pieces and add the onions and fry till light brown add the tomatoes and ginger garlic paste and fry well till tomatoes turn mushy.

  4. Now add the rice, turmeric, salt, chili powder and fry for 5 minutes. You need two glasses of water to cook one glass of rice. Since we already have coconut milk measure it first and then add water to make two glasses.

  5. If you feel lazy to make coconut milk you can also add the paste after the tomatoes get mushy and fry for 2 minutes and then add rice. then you can add plain water 2 glasses.

  6. Now close the lid and cook for 7 minutes after the whistle and switch off and serve hot.
