Tomato Curry with Roasted Channa Dal

Very tasty with all types of roties good with rice too. You can also add vegetables for variation. Like peas, beans, carrot, cauliflower potato etc.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp Grated Coconut
  • 2 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 2 Tomatoes big
  • 3/4 tsp Chili Powder
  • 2 tsp Fried Channa Dal Powder
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp Curd

Instructions

  1. First grind coconut and corriander to a smooth paste and keep aside. Wash and cut the tomatoes.

  2. If you have fried channa dal powder( papula podi ) then fine if not take 4 tsp of fried channa dal and make ito powder in blender and keep aside

  3. Now take a flat bottomed dish or pan put oil add tempering (mustard and cumin 1/4 tsp each and channa dal and urad dal 1/2 tsp each and 5 curry leaves) when they splutter add masala and fry for 3 minutes then add finely chopped tomatoes.

  4. After 2 minutes of frying add turmeric salt chili powder keep stirring continuously. after the masala starts getting slightly brown add curds and water as needed and cook

  5. Cook till the tomatoes become mushy if you have added any vegetable then it should get cooked well.

  6. Now add Fried channa dal powder (papulapodi) and cook for another 3 minutes switch off garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
