Ridge Gourd with Green Gram Curry

Ridge gourd is high in nutrition. Has good amounts of A and C. Green gram is rich in protein, calcium and B6. Both are rich in fiber and no fat so more can you want. good with chapatis and rice.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 kg Ridge Gourd
  • 1/2 cup Green Gram dal
  • 4 Green Chilies
  • 1 small ball Tamarind
  • 2 Onions big
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  • 3 tsp Oil

Instructions

  1. Soak dal in water for half an hour. Wash and cut the onion into small pieces also cut the chilies into pieces.  Peel the ridge gourd and cut into medium pieces and keep aside.

  2. Take a cooker and add 2 tsp oil and add half onion pieces and chilies, salt, turmeric, soaked dal  and the gourd pieces and tamarind and fry for 2 minutes.

  3. Then pour half a glass water and close the lid and cook for 5 minutes after the whistle and switch off.

  4. After the pressure decreases in the cooker remove the lid and mash the dal with a ladle not too much the gourd pieces should be seen.

  5. Now take a pan add tempering 1/2 tsp of cumin and mustard and 1/2 tsp of channa dal 5 garlic cloves and 6 curry leaves when they splutter add the left over onion pieces and fry till light brown and add to the dal and mix well.
