Punjabi Chole

Nutritious with good amounts of protein, iron and B vitamins. Good for growing children. They will love eating it with batura or chapathis or parottas.  Those who dont like vegetables will also love this.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 glass Channa
  • 1 Onion big
  • 2 Tomatoes big
  • 1 inch Ginger Piece
  • 6 cloves Garlic
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 3 tbsp Coriander Seeds
  • 3 cloves
  • 3 Cinnamon pieces
  • 11/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Chilli Powder heaped
  • 4 tbsp Oil

Instructions

  1. Take half glass channa soak overnight and in the morning boil for 10 minutes in pressure cooker.

  2. Take a pan fry coriander and cummin seeds and keep aside. 

  3. Now grind cummin, coriander, ginger, garlic, cloves and cinnamon. Fry onion and tomatoes and also grind them and keep aside.

  4. Now take a pan add oil put 8 curry leaves and fry for a minute add the masala onion and tomato masala also should be added.

  5. Keep frying stirring occasionally till the masala turns brown and the oil starts separating from masala now add  salt chilli powder and turmeric and fry for 2minutes

  6. Now add the boiled channa along with water and cook, if you think it is too thick you can add some more water. If you are cooking in the pan then it might take 10 to 15 minutes. If using a pressure cooker then cook it for 7 minutes after the whistle.

  7. Garnish with corriander leaves and serve with batura, chapati, parota or even rice.
