Chole (Shruthi's)

Easy dish with channa. Packed with proteins and B vitamins. Wonderful with rotis, baturas, chappaties or even with plain pulkas. Goes well with puris and breads too.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 glass Chickpeas
  • 2 Onions big
  • 5 Greenchillies
  • 2 tbsp Chole masala anybrand
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 3 Tomatoes
  • 8 cloves Garlic
  • 6 tbsp Oil
  • 8 Curry leaves

Instructions

  1. First soak chick peas overnight in water(at least eight hours). Then boil them in cooker( 15 minutes after the whistle blows) also add salt to the chickpeas when boiling.

  2. Take a pan put 1/4 tsp oil and fry the tomatoes till they get soft, switch off and let cool then grind them into a paste and keep aside. 

  3. Now grind the green chillies and garlic cloves and keep aside.

  4. Then take a pan add 6 tbsp oil and add curry leaves and onions cut into long pieces and fry till they get brown. Now add 2 slit green chillies and fry for 1/2 a minute and add tomato paste, chilli powder, turmeric, and the chole masala and fry for 5 to 6 minutes then add the chole from the cooker along with the water and cook till oil starts to surface. you get an aromatic smell too.

  5. If you want the curry to be thick then let it cook for few more minutes, switch off and garnish with corriander leaves. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon to the curry and mix throughly, you can add more if you want. Now enjoy the tasty Chole curry.
