Chaat

My mother used to love cooking so much that she used go and ask the hotel cooks how they made it if she liked the dish, i think she must have got this recipe from one such hotels. My mother has cooked it a few times and it is one of my favourite dishes. Try it and impress your family members and friends.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 kg Peas (2 cups)
  • 6 Cloves
  • 5 Cardamom
  • 7 small Pieces Cinnamon
  • 2 Onions big
  • 1 Garlic pod whole
  • 3 inch Ginger Piece
  • 1 tbsp Poppy Seeds
  • 1/4 cup Besan (Gram Flour)
  • 10 Green Chillies
  • 3 Tomatoes big
  • 1/2 cup Curds
  • 4 Potatoes medium
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 5 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Boil peas in a cooker for 5 minutes  after the whistle blows. Peel and cut the potatoes into medium pieces and fry them in oil and keep aside.

  2. Now grind the cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and poppy seeds. also grind onions, ginger and garlic and keep aside.

  3. Now take a pan add oil and the masala and fry for 3 minutes now add the boiled peas, salt and 1/2 glass water and cook for 10 minutes till the oil starts to come on to the surface. Mix the gram flour with water to form a smooth liquid now pour this over the curry and let cook for 5 minutes stirring continuously. now add tamarind juice and cook for 2 minutes and switch off.

  4. When serving take the required amount of chaat in a bowl and add 2 tsp of curd and garnish with tomato pieces, onion pieces and chilli pieces and the fried potatoes and chat masala and serve hot. Garnish with coriander leaves.
